Top 10 Greener Gifts To Send This Festive Season!

If you’re anything like me, choosing gifts for others during the festive season is tricky! I don’t want to contribute to the consumerist wheel that we all get trapped on by panic buying too many things just for the sake of it; however I still want to show my loved ones that I care.

The answer, I feel is to introduce them to independent, sustainability focussed brands and products that they will either integrate into their everyday lives, or share with friends and family, which in turn supports small business or reduces our impact on the planet. Some of these are perfect for planty people and some are just must haves in my eyes!

Sustainability no longer equates to boring and dull and there are so many amazing companies out there now which are producing both beautiful and useful products that will enhance our lives and bring genuine joy during the unwrapping session on xmas morning.

Here are my top 10 brands, all of which make products that I have personally tested out and already recommended to others. They also all make perfect gifts (as well as houseplants of course!).

Weirdstock

Bedding For The Bold

For those of you that know me well, you’ll know how much I love bed sheets! Weird Stock is my latest obsession, I think it’s easy to see why…..Those vibrant colours and retro proints of course! And it’s not just bedding in their collection; you’ll also find adorbale sleep masks, cushions and even a pillow mist! My favourite print has to be their Groove Inn design, but honestly they are all stunning.

Weirdstock makes a range of bedding and accessories that bridges the gap between vintage style and modern quality, whilst having a minimal impact on the planet. Specialising in 100% organic cotton bedding with a bold, retro aesthetic as well as super soft and silky, hotel-esque quality. Each product has been thoughtfully designed by founder Johanna, to be fun and uplifting, injecting some 1970s eclecticism into your unique and joyful home.

Weirdstock takes care of people and planet by ensuring that their products are made by skilled workers who are paid fairly. They take care of the planet by producing in small batches, using 100% organic natural fibres, no dyes that use harmful chemicals and absolutely no plastic packaging!

AKT London

Natural Deodorant That Performs

You may remember the photoshoot I styled for AKT earlier this year…..Well they got me hooked on their Natural Deodorant Balm during the shoot and I’ve not looked back since! Deodorant as an xmas gift?? Yes it’s perfect! AKT makes incredible sets like The Starter Set in their signatyre scent SC.01 (my personal favourite) that are ideal for gifting and they even have their own scented candle!

All of the products from AKT are designed with efficacy, strong environmental ethics, and premium fragrances at the forefront. All of their formulations are made right here in the U.K. and are packed in their signature, vibrant, plastic-free packaging which brings so much joy when it arrives!

Their deodorant is vegan, cruelty, and aluminium salt free. It’s really moisturising too and doesn’t stain your clothes - A real pet peeve of mine when using other brands! One tube also seems to last for ages, even with daily application a tube lasts me around two and a half months, so it’s well worth investing in!

So, you can still gift ‘smellies’ this year, just upgrade them to AKT and you won’t get judged!

Haws

British Made Watering Cans

Made in England for over 130 years, I think it’s safe to say that the team at Haws really know how to make a watering can that’s built to last! A must have tool for any indoor gardener, their Rowley Ripple and Smethwick Spritzer Set has been a part of my essential kit at home for years. With recyclable packaging designed to match the design and quality of their cans, heritage brand Haws has undergone a contemporary transformation in recent years and I love it!

Haws still manufacture in the U.K. and endeavour to minimise waste material and champion the art of handmade with a highly skilled team of makers working in their Birmingham based factory. I had the pleasure of visitng the factory in the Summer and was completely blown away by their dedication to delivering the best quality products to their customers.

Gift Haws to yourself to help take care of your own houseplants too…..If there’s only one box I want to see under the tree this year, it’s one from Haws!

Frond

Houseplant Pots & Accessories

I have had the great pleasure of working with the team at Frond to create my very own signature orange Flo Pot as you might have already discovered. I also stock their super handy mini snips which are another essential tool for any indoor gardener alongside their Cos Terrarium Kit!

Frond also make an incredible range of products that make excellent gifts year round, but especially for xmas. Their aim is to simplify and de-mistify the watering cycle of houseplants with a holistic, bottom-up approach. Their products provide the best conditions for healthy roots and thriving houseplants. What more could you ask for! And they are based in the U.K. in sunny Cornwall.

Their self-watering planters are ideal for most of my 12cm houseplants that you can find here.

Stengun Drawings

Contemporary Botanical Stationery

My favourite botanical prints and cards are made by the wonderful Stengun Drawings! Designed and curated by husband and wife team Brett and Caroline in their East London studio; Stengun Drawings combines a love of natural beauty and modernist culture. Everything they create is inspired by observing the world around them.

Their recent additon to the collection featuring ‘Little Shop Of Horrors’ planty star Audrey II is my absolute favourite!

They print everything in the U.K. and they are completely plastic free! Their Giclee prints make perfect gifts and their greetings cards suit any occasion…..There’s still time to order their new Christmas range too!

Another Studio

Unique Plant Accessories & Gifts

Another Studio has been on my radar for quite some time and is a staple gifting brand for plant lovers. They are a plant-loving, conscientious, design company who were founded on Aimee Furnival’s kitchen table in London, in 2009. Their inspiration comes from ephemera, architecture and the botanics.

Whilst their extensive collection of Plant Animals make great stocking fillers, this Houseplant Care Card Set is ideal for the more knowledgable plant parents among us as it includes care guide to more unusual houseplants. For beginners you could try their original set which includes all of the classic houseplants that we know and love.

Soil. Ninja

Premium Dirt Dealers

If you want to gift something a little dirty this year, then look no further than Soil. Ninja’s range of peat-free, premium houseplant soil blends. They make the best gift for indoor gardeners and you can choose from either pre-blended mixes for easy soil refreshes, or for the soil geeks among us; each component is sold separately!

Best of all, you could order some as a gift to your own plants (and therefore yourself!) and give them all a soil upgrade.

If you’re looking for a generic soil mix for a wide range of houseplant types, my very own exclusive blend, Lush Dirt, was created for PBT by the experts at Soil. Ninja.

Potr

Flat Pack Plant Pots

Potr put circular design thinking at the centre of everything they do. They have chosen carbon saving flat packed delivery to reducing material usage by 90%! These origami inspired, self-watering pots come in a huge range of colours and they even have a new Saved From The Sea range. I really love their transparent colourway too which features vibrant cords that create the structure of the pot whilst doubling as the wick for the self-watering system. A great way to display houseplants in any space!

Potr pots are ideal gifts for those who you can’t visit in person this December as they all fit through a letterbox!

For Peat’s Sake

Plant Care

For Peat’s Sake is a specialist in peat-free, coir based, de-hydrated compost blocks which have rescued me on many an occasion during houseplant repotting sessions. Founder George created the brand after discovering how peat harvesting to manufacture garden compost is seriously impacting our planet and eco systems.

Gift wise, I would highly recommend their Hungry Plants Organic Houseplant Food for any budding plant parent in your life as well as a Bundle of their Coir Blocks.

Also their organic cotton T-Shirt is a fanatstic gift for those who really care about the peat-free cause - “Love Peat Don’t Dig It” is a slogan I can really get behind!

Leroy Makes Things

Ceramics

Leroy Makes Things is based in Bristol and creates the cutest handmade ceramics that are ideal companions for houseplants! Leroy’s hand crafted colourful mini mushrooms, slugs and snails are all available from his Etsy Shop. I use them as decor in my houseplant pots as well as dotting them around my home on shelves and tables. They make perfect unexpected gifts as each one is glazed in a unique way and has real character. You could even add them to your festive dinner table display as decoration or as party favours!
