The Midnight Club

Shoreditch

The Midnight Club studio space in Shoreditch was an absolute dream of an opportunity to be able green up! This less than traditional office is packed with some of the top creators in their field and the planting scheme needed to match their level of fun and ingenuity. So when I clapped eyes on these amazing bath tubs, I knew they needed to be filled to the brim with jungle vibes.

Originally built as a stationery print works in the early 1900’s, the loft style basement space actually has loads of natural light with coming down from street level windows, bright ceiling lights and the added benefit of an original glass roof and double ceiling height over the kitchen area. The client wanted to green up the space above their new dining area so that the team could break away from their desks and get some contact with nature.

Rather than the typical macrame plant hangers or suspended concrete pots, I opted for zinc buckets to mirror the materials used in the space. I also worked closely with the client to develop a more fun and design conscious method of suspending them from the ceiling above. We chose orange nylon ropes and metal climbing hardware to create a clean and contemporary display to match the feel of the studio and The Midnight Club team with houseplant species that will form both long trails and create a jungle canopy.

The baths were flooded with vibrant lime green leaved houseplant varieties that would enhance the vibrant colour palette of the tubs and tiles and will eventually spill out of the edges as they grow. ‘Foam’ details were added in the form of preserved mosses and the exisiting chrome taps were kept visible to add to the fun of the design.
